Peatland
Regeneration

Did you know...

We would need to sell 5 million jars to use 1 tonne of peat. We use 0.0006g of peat in every one of our 305g jars and much of the peat we use comes from the distiller’s off cuts that are left behind.

Giving back more
than we take

But we also want to ensure we give back (a lot) more than we take from the land. That is why we have spear headed the formation of an industry wide initiative where we have brought together 6 small to medium sized distilleries (plus us!) to form a cooperative, to donate a % of our total sales into peatland regeneration.

Crofters x Cooperatives

Launching in early 2025, funds will be directed towards crofters who have peatbogs as part of their land. We will work with them to embed practices which aid regeneration including: the use of traditional peat cutting tools (and not drills or machinery); their peat is only cut to a certain depth to ensure regrowth (its often cut too deep meaning it cannot regenerate); and if an area of peatland is currently uncut, it is left as is.

Where we are now

We delighted that the founding members of this cooperative include 6 whisky distilleries and 3 Scottish Government Agencies. We hope it wont be long before more distillers join which will increase the size of the fund. We will have a greater impact together!
